Polygon (MATIC) is a blockchain aiming to enhance scalability and efficiency within the crypto ecosystem, particularly on the Ethereum network. Formerly known as Matic Network, Polygon combines Layer-2 features with sidechain capabilities. The native token, MATIC, serves for staking and gas fees but will be replaced by a third-generation token called POL. Polygon creates a multi-layer ecosystem with interconnected sidechains and Layer-2 protocols linked to Ethereum.
